Level Designer
My main role during the internship was Level Designer. The objective that I was given was to create one complete open-world map and multiple smaller challenge levels. My workflow was simple, I'd plan everything in Illustrator, then start working on a blockout in Blender, and then place the assets and gameplay elements directly in Unity. This internship helped me learn how to use Blender in a an extremeley efficient way and I realised how useful of a tool it could be for Level Design .
The work that I am most proud of are the challenge levels. I made three of those, one of them being the dragon level seen on the video at the top of this page. Each level took about one to two weeks to make. I made more of these, but since the gameplay changed over the course of my internship, some of my work was sadly scrapped.

For the open-world map, I worked alongside my internship supervisor to create it. We managed to find a system where he designed the macro aspects of the level and I would come in and work on the micro aspects of it. But that plan didn't work out amazingly since we were short on time and had to reuse a lot of previous level elements to avoid losing work. So we had to find a way to shoehorn it somewhere, and the level resulted in an awkward and confusing experience.

Game Designer
As a level design intern, most of my work consisted of working on maps, but I did also have a consequential impact on the game design of Elemental Roll. Since the team just started creating the game when I arrive, it was a bit too early to start making level design on a game that still didn't have a clear and set game design. So my first maps mostly helped the team understand the problems with the game design, and we spent some time brainstorming together and finding solutions to change the gameplay to make it more fun and interesting.
Elemental Roll
An open world Roll-a-ball collectathon
Elemental Roll is an open world collectathon that uses a simple roll-a-ball controller for some fun physics-based 3D platforming.
As Byle, king of the underworld, the player has to travel through a series of giant environments to find challenge levels and grow stronger to regain Byle's original powers.
I worked on Elemental Roll during my 4-month internship at SaltButter Games during the summer of 2021. As a level designer my job consisted of creating maps, but I also helped the team with game design and document creation. The game should be finished and released at some point in 2022.
